Tawa-tawa Plant: An alternative Medicine for Dengue Fever

Recently, Philippines has been hit by a big problem in terms of health. It was recently reported that Dengue fever spread throughout the country. Dengue fever is a virus disease that is transmitted through mosquito. Most of the people that strikes this kind of disease are those who have low immune system.  A certain person can strike dengue four times.

People now are doing an alternative way to cure dengue fever. One of the most popular alternative is by boiling a  tawa-tawa palant.  Tawa- tawa is a Slender-stemmed, annual hairy plant with many branches from the base to the top, spreading up to 40 cms tall, reddish or purplish in color. Leaves are opposite, elliptic-oblong to oblong-lanceolate, distichoous, 1 to 2.5 cms long, blotched with purple in the middle, toothed at the edge. Numerous involucres, purplish to greenish in color, dense, axillary, short-stalked clusters or crowded cymes, about 1 mm in length. Capsules are broadly ovoid, hairy, and three-angled, about 1.5 cms.

There are many testimonies stated that the plants really cures dengue fever. In order to use the tawa-tawa plants you must drink the water of the boiled roots.
How to prepare decoction of tawa-tawa:
  • Cut the roots of 5 or 6 tawa-tawa plants.
  • Rinse and clean the roots.
  • Boil water and put the tawa-tawa roots for 1 minute.
  • Cool the decoction.
  • Drink 1 or 1 ½ glasses every hour for 24 hours.

The said plant is not yet verified to effectively cure dengue fever. People use tawa-tawa plants, in order to lessen the expenses for the treatment of the disease. Just make sure to prepare it properly.

Pinoy Junior Master Chef Edition: Showcasing the Creative Talent of Young Pinoy in Cooking

August 27, 2011- The first airing of Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition. This was hosted and presented by the Chef Mom and actress Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo. While I was watching the show, my first question that comes in my mind if this young children would able to cook impressive dishes.  Another thing is that, how can they able to impress the judges, especially they are judged by Professional Filipino Chefs Rolando Laudico, JP Anglo and Fern Aracama.

The Junior Chefs required cooking a food that usually served during their town fiesta. All of the ingredients are provided and it’s up to them if what menu they are going to cook. There was a Child that captured my attention. He was the one who cooked caldereta. I was really amazed on how he presented the caldereta on the judges and for me he is the one who really presented a fiesta food. Other contestant also presented their menu deliciously. The top Pinoy Junior Chef during that show is Iain Johnston. He cooks a Mediterranean food and I forgot what the name of his menu was. Other junior chefs that were included in the top 11 are the following:
  • ·         Bea Atienza
  • ·         Philip Amarillo
  • ·         Kyle Imao
  • ·         Juday Vinasoy
  • ·         Franz Dacanay
  • ·         Louise Mabulo
  • ·         Micmic Alebusa
  • ·         Gilbert Go
  • ·         Hans Danielle
It is really amazing that these young children can cook that kind of food. And I do hope that on the future episode they will still make best dish on their own.

On the next episode another set of junior chef will be showcasing their cooking talent in baking. Join me guys to watch Junior Master Chef Pinoy Edition every Saturday, 6:45pm only on ABS-CBN.
